Found a way to install the dev beta this past weekend. Pretty impressed so far.

Guess I’ll install the public profile now that it’s finally up.

If you’re finishing up school, and the pixel works right now, try holding off a little longer. If money is an issue in that you could use those funds to pay things right now, then take care of those first.

Something else to think about is in September, when the new devices drop, last year’s models will most likely see a price drop. It may only be a couple of hundred dollars, but it could help you out if you’re still taking care of your finances.

I remember getting the iOS 7 beta on my first iOS device (iPad Mini 1) and blowing all my friends' minds by the crazy new design. That was back in the days of UDID registration!

I remember when I was still using Android that a friend of mine showed me his 5S running iOS 7. The whole new look is what made it easier jumping ship.

It’s just had that “KitKat” vibe to it. I really liked it.

There's no double dip - the same IAP gets rid of the ads and the watermark, and I've set it to the minimum price. 95%+ of users never buy the IAP, so ads are pretty much a necessity unfortunately.

Then I misunderstood. I saw 2 different options there, and it reminded me of another application where the developer was charging different amounts for different functions.

In that case, $0.99 isn’t bad for both watermark and ad removal.

Thanks, I appreciate your response! I’ll tweak the design a bit for the next update to be clearer - it’s just a requirement that the restore purchases button is somewhere and I didn’t want to bury it in an unnecessary menu.

It’s all good. Like I said, I didn’t read it right. Went back and looked at it again, and it’s pretty clear.

App’s kind of cool, too.

I purchased this app a few weeks ago, and was not impressed. Couldn’t get any video to play, app crashed multiple times, and nothing worked right.

Took me 2 days before I gave up trying to get it to work, and requested a refund.

Firefox Focus. I switched to that a few months back, and it’s been great.

All the time. Yes, I use the lightning adapter, but I hate the extra wear and tear on the only port on my device, and I miss just being able to plug any set of headphones in wherever I’m at.

I used this answer in another thread like this last week.

Just pull the trigger now. If there’s a device that you want, at least you can get it now, and you won’t have to wait on it being back ordered, or your carrier not having any in stock.

Don’t continue to use a broken device for another 6 months. Especially if your only reason is so you have a chance of getting a slightly improved version of whatever is on the market today at launch.

If it’s easier and more cost-effective to upgrade, then just do it. Most Apple users know that either device, the 8 Plus or the X, will continue to receive security updates and support for the next 4-5 years.

All the extra time you use waiting for the next best thing is going to be time wasted on frustrations with your current device.

I don’t think it’s just you. For a few days, I noticed my battery took a hit, to the point where my device started freezing up and rebooting. I contacted Apple Support, and they said I probably need a new battery.

I uninstalled Fortnite, and did a restore. Haven’t attempted to reinstall it yet, and my device seems to be working great again.

Good.

I may be wrong, but I figure that there are a lot of Apple users, myself being one of them, who would like to pick one of these up. But some of the recent decisions Apple has made, as far as pricing goes, is starting to test the loyalty of some users.

That’s not a bad thing. Companies will only do what we, the customers, allow them to do. Maybe it’s time they realized brand recognition isn’t everything, and the “Apple Tax” doesn’t hold as much value as it used to.

I have no problem buying a quality product as long as I feel it’s worth what you’re asking me to pay, and the X really is too much. Especially when you consider it shares 90% of the same features as devices that not only were released at the same time, but devices that also cost way less.

If this article turns out to be true, then maybe I’ll find a reason to upgrade from my 7+. I would love to right now, but I just don’t think the experience justifies the price.

Not very far, if you consider that the only recent “breakthroughs” have come directly from Apple, specifically for Apple products. The rest of the world has been making wireless headphones, but it doesn’t seem that great strides have been made as much as one would’ve hoped.

Manufacturers are still making wireless headphones, the same as they were before Apple removed the jack. They’re still improving their products and trying different things, but there hasn’t been a big leap forward, outside of Apple products.

What OP is asking is like asking in 2008 “what has the iPhone done to advance mobile computing”. At that point, the answer would be nothing, because it was an experience that was proprietary to Apple. But in 2 years, the influence was obvious.

I can understand that, but in that time, almost 2 years now, there hasn’t really been any major breakthroughs when it comes to wireless audio. Especially compared to wired audio.

People give a lot of praise to the AirPods and, while I don’t own a pair, I will say it’s a step in the right direction. It just sucks that the tech behind it is designed to keep people locked into the ecosystem.

There are a few apps on the App Store you could try.

Photoshop Mix is pretty good. Used it a couple times, and it seems to do the job.

Union is another one that’s pretty decent. I’ve used Union before, and it’s been solid.

Just try searching around the App Store, and check out the reviews. I have no doubt you’ll find what you’re looking for.

A proper filesystem.

I really dislike iOS paradigm of associating files with apps. And having to rely on iTunes to do it.

Just let me choose what app to open a file with already!

The closest thing I’ve been able to find is Documents. It has a built in web browser, so you can download just about any file, and it will allow you to export it to several different applications.

Used this to download some movies and short films from the internet archive, then exported them to VLC. Resolution wasn’t the best, but it still worked great.

Usually about twice a year. It’s nice to have a fresh start near the beginning of the year, and then usually when the next version of iOS drops.

Well there's more hope for it now that we have Project Treble.

Project Treble gives me hope, but it also seems more like Google’s way of taking away any excuses OEMs would/could use as to why they won’t offer updates for their devices.

I mean, what can you say when the company who is (basically) giving you their operating system is making your job easier?

Tweetbot. It seemed popular on here, so I gave it a shot. Then I asked myself why I dumped $5 on a Twitter app.

It wasn’t bad. It’s just not as great as I thought it would be.

That looks so much better than the current UI. Can’t wait to check it out.

I don’t think I’ve seen so much gold in one thread. Geez.

It’s like Oprah all up in here.

Awesome. Liking the detail in Aku’s eyes.

I love the hypocrisy on this sub. When the FBI was screaming at Apple to let them have access to devices, users in here were up in arms about “MUH PRIVACY”. Now that it’s another country, it’s “well, they can’t lose business. They have to comply with government requests.”

You all realize that this company that you adore so much doesn’t care about you at all, right? They’re here to make money, yet you all wear these rose-colored glasses when it comes to a company that has proven time and time again that the almighty dollar is more important than anything that we care about. Our data is just something else for them to leverage.

They don’t care about you unless you’re continuing to buy their overpriced products. They don’t care about you unless you’re using their products the way they tell you to use them. And they don’t care about you if you stand in the way of them making more money than they honestly NEED.

And yes, it is iCloud data. NOW. Let’s see how quickly Timmy changes his mind in the next 3-5 years.

I love the hypocrisy on this sub

The contradiction you established to show this was a strawman. You’ve misrepresented both sides of that immensely. People are accurately pointing out the respective privacy concerns are not related. The only difference between how the Chinese and US governments can access the data is a warrant; specifically the Chinese don’t need one.

proven time and time again that the almighty dollar is more important than anything that we care about

Except that’s not actually true, and we have significant evidence that contradicts this.

this company that you adore [..] overpriced products [..] making more money than they honestly NEED

Your bias is simultaneously discrediting and satisfyingly hilarious.

Are you going to come back and apologize at that point when he doesn’t?

So the fact that the chinese government can demand access to anyone’s personal informarion without just cause makes it any better? If anything, my point was just proven.

They’re content bowing to the will of a communist regime to make more money.

Except that’s not actually true, and we have significant evidence that contradicts this.

....except their current actions prove that it is true.

The fact that questioning the decisions a corporation makes, a corporation whose products I currently use, is considered “bias” is exactly the type of hypocrisy that permeates this sub.

Are you going to come back and apologize at that point when he doesn’t?

Apologize for being concerned about a corporation’s policies and actions? Apologize for the precedent this may set?

I don’t see why i should apologize to a corporation if their actions dictate a distinct contrast to what they’ve been telling their customers for years.

I understand that last bit was sarcasm, but the fact that having any apologetic attitude towards a corporation is unsettling.

Price. The lack of interesting features didn’t justify the cost of a mid-range laptop or used car.

Notch. Checked out a display model a couple of weeks ago, and that’s the only thing I kept staring at the whole time. Takes you out of the experience.

Speaking of experience, the third reason is....iOS. I know what to expect from the software side, and the experience is not worth the asking price.

I liked my 6. I thought jumping up to a Plus model would be great, and for a while it was, but I enjoy using my devices with a little more ease than trying to juggle a big phone.

And the only thing I would want to make a return is the headphone jack.
